Mission: Cottage Industry
In 2020 Greater Framingham Community Church in Massachusetts, through Missions of Virtue, once again sponsored a business venture, The Cottage Industry, at Maranatha Christian Church in Waterhouse, Jamaica. Three ladies were selected and trained in bead-weaving so that they could make patriotic jewelry and key rings to sell at local gift shops and craft fairs.
For the first month, the women were provided with a stipend and raw materials for the endeavor while they make the first set of items. After that, they received funds based on the sale of the items they produced. Majority of what is received from the sale of their items goes to these women and the balance goes toward buying more raw material to make more product. Someone located in Jamaica will be seeking places to sell the product and making contact with potential buyers. This business will be autonomous - able to take care of itself.
